Trip to Jerusalem

Considering today is Good Friday, I thought it would be apt for a post about getting to Jerusalem, say if you want to make a pilgrimage and retrace the steps of Jesus to Calvary or visit the temple of the rock where Mohammed is said to have risen to heaven.  A cursory google search reveals that it’s far harder to find than I thought, but I did stumble across a few ways to get there for the devout traveller.

Ephesus Travel and Tours offers a tour to the Holy City with airfare and accomodations included for roughly 130,000 pesos ($3200).  There’s a catch though. and that is that you have to find 15 other people interested in the trip since it’s a group tour with group rates.  They offer a side trip to Dubai for around $400, which you almost might as well take them up on since you spent that much already.  Oh, you also get a chaplain and a Filipino tour guide as a bonus, so that’s something to consider I guess.

You can also make your own arrangements to travel to Jerusalem, and if you book early enough you can get to Tel Aviv for as low as $2117 dollars.  You’d have to find your own way to Jerusalem though, and make your own inter-Israel travel and lodging arrangements, though it could be worth it in the long run.

Any way you look at it, it seems like traveling to the Holy City is a rather expensive undertaking, since it seems like the Middle East isn’t as infested with budget carriers as we are as of this time.
